I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. It has been another busy week for Police in Stevenage Town Centre and 9 Yards. We have had more arrests, more vehicle seizures and some pretty notable jobs I would like to share in this weeks update.
To start things off, operation Scootherts has taken another X3 E-scooters and X1 illegally modified E-bike off the roads. All drivers have been reported for no insurance and are all due to appear in court. Our operation has been working so well that even Hertford have joined in on the fun, seizing an E-bike.
Speaking of operations, Operation Retailer has launched specifically for the 9 Yards patch. This works the same as another operation mentioned in previous updates “Hotspot”, whereby Police officers, PCSO’s and SGT’s give up their free time and patrol the area for additional hours. Hotspot was very successful, massively reducing Anti-Social Behaviour, drug crime, thefts and more with Retailer being location specific.
Police had attended a report of a male who had possession of cannabis on them in Stevenage Town Centre. The suspect had produced on his persons buds of cannabis and a cannabis grinder. He has been ordered to complete a Community Resolution due to the offence.
A female was arrested for theft from a shop after she had been seen stealing over £600.00 worth of stock from Boots. She was wanted for only 20 minutes before Police found her and arrested. During the arrest, she had also kicked a Police Officer and was further arrested for assault on an emergency worker. She was then further arrested in Police Custody for not providing a sample for a class A drug test. As a result of this, she had been charged and remanded in custody. She is due to appear in court on 09/03/2026 for sentencing.
A male has been arrested for S4 Public Order after threatening to stab a member of the public with a pen. He was due to appear for an out of custody interview to which he did not turn up. Police had located and arrested the suspect where he was then interviewed in custody. The male was charged with S4A public order and is due to appear in court for 01/04/2026 for a hearing.
Christopher Field aged 42 of Archer Road was arrested for Burglary, Theft from a Shop, Breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order and Breach of Court Imposed Bail on 01/03/2026. He was charged with X2 counts of Theft from a Shop and X3 counts of Breach of Criminal Behaviour Order and was remanded to court. Field pled guilty and was fined £137.50 as well as a 28 week suspended sentence.
Our final job relates to a member of the public who had alerted Police, stating that there was a female on top of the Westgate car park and that he thought “Something wasn’t right” and asked Police to have a look. Police attended the car park and was greeted by a female. The lady had stated that she was feeling suicidal and had travelled to a different county to complete suicide. After several hours of negotiating with the female, she was sectioned and taken by Police to hospital to receive the help that she needs.
I would like to thank the member of the public who alerted Police to this job. This is an excellent example of when Police and members of the public to achieve a common goal and as a result of such, saved a life.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
